The Fermentation Project

Public Coffee Cupping at The Lost Barn

Date & Time TBC (September 2026)

(Free to attend)

Be part of this global coffee event by joining us for a relaxed cupping of four Guatemalan coffees that have been subject to different processes or fermentation approaches.

The Fermentation Project is an exciting global initiative led by James Hoffmann (award-winning coffee professional, author & communicator), Lucia Solis (coffee fermentation specialist), and Caravela (sourcing partner & distributor), exploring how processing methods shape the flavours of coffee.

The project is an opportunity to taste one varietal of coffee from a single origin, processed in four ways. Coffee drinkers from around the world can join together to simultaneously cup the coffees, whether that’s in their home, or at an organised, public cupping.

More information about The Fermentation Project can be found here, as well as on James Hoffman’s social media channels.

Lost Barn Coffee is one of the roasters from around the world who is taking part in this exciting project – receiving the beans from Caravela (who, under the guidance and instruction of Lucia, have carefully processed these coffees) to then send to us for roasting here in Cheshire. A limited amount of The Fermentation Project coffees will be available to purchase through our shop here (pre-orders being taken in July, with fulfilment planned for August).

We will also be hosting a public cupping at The Lost Barn at the beginning of September to tie in with the project’s global schedule (exact date TBC). The event will be relaxed and open to all. However, spaces will be limited, so please get in touch to express your interest if you would like to attend.
